CONVIN has secured the World Tunneling Congress for Athens in 2023

The Greek Tunneling Society (GTS) has been selected as the host of the World Tunnel Congress 2023 (WTC2023) in Athens, in a secret ballot during the General Assembly (2.10.2021) of the International Tunneling and Underground Space Association (ITA -AITES).

Thanks to a complete and integrated proposal as well as an innovative presentation, the Greek candidature prevailed in the final stage of the candidate evaluation with 33 votes (70%) against the Turkish candidature, which received 14 votes (30%).

The Greek Tunnelling Society joined forces with the Professional Congress Organiser CONVIN SA, the This is Athens Convention and Visitors Bureau, renowned scientists from Greece and abroad as members of the Organizing Committee, the Mayor of Athens Mr. Kostas Bakogiannis, the Minister of Infrastructure & Transport Mr. Kostas Karamanlis and many more public sector institutions that supported Athens’ candidacy.

The outcome of the vote for the WTC2023 constitutes both a national success and a great opportunity for Greece to promote its infrastructure and scientific capital, as well as its ability to organize a highly successful conference.

The World Congress of the International Tunnelling and Underground Space Association (ΙΤΑ-AITES), will take place between 12^th and 18^th of May 2023 at Megaron Athens International Conference Centre. It will be the most prominent event in the sector, with more than 2,500 delegates from all over the world and a Technical exhibition, that includes the biggest, worldwide companies in the field of tunnelling and underground projects.
