Onward Journeys in Greece
If you’re planning day trips to the archaeological sites, mountains, or coastal resorts near Athens, there is an efficient train and bus network at your disposal.
There are two bus terminals in Athens that will take you anywhere you want to go in Greece.
KTEL Kifissou serves the Peloponnese and western Greece. Bus routes 051 (from Omonia Square), 420 (from Piraeus port) or X93 (from Athens International Airport) connect to KTEL Kifissou.
KTEL Liossion serves central and northern Greece. Bus routes 420 (from Piraeus), A10 (from Larissis Station), and X93 (from Athens International Airport) connect to KTEL Liossion.

Three ports provide ferry services to the Greek islands from Athens.
- Piraeus Port is Athens' main port, servicing most of the islands. Accessible by bus and metro (line 1) from the city centre.
- Rafina Port has ferry boats to Andros, Tinos, Mykonos, Paros, Naxos, Amorgos, Ios, Syros, Sikinos, Folegandros, Koufonissia, and Crete.
The best way to get to Rafina is by car or taxi (50-60 minutes). You can also take metro line 3 to Doukissis Plakentias station, and from there bus 314. KTEL buses that depart as often as every 15 minutes from Pedion Areos can also take you to Rafina with routes that start from 5:45 am till 10:30 pm. - Lavrio Port has ferry boats to Kythnos, Kea, Kavala, Kimolos, Limnos, Milos, Paros, Naxos, Tinos, Syros, Sikinos and Folegandros. Intercity buses (KTEL) run from the city centre (Mavromateon stop) and the Athens International Airport. A taxi ride costs about €45 and takes an average of 75 minutes.
